Commemorative stamp issued for DZRH, oldest AM radio station in Philippines

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) issues today, July 15, 2014, single-design commemorative stamps celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of DZRH, the Philippines' oldest and the only AM radio station with nationwide presence.

The commemorative stamps feature the Diamond Anniversary Logo of DZRH and the design was by Johnson Escaner.

Postmaster General Josie M. Dela Cruz said this commemorative stamp is a fitting tribute to the monumental contribution of DZRH radio station in our nation's history, through its massive campaign to highlight responsible broadcasting and the continuing relevance of the radio industry, as well as in renewing its commitment to public service.

"We issue the DZRH commemorative stamps as we recognize the significant roles and milestones of DZRH in the annals of Philippine history," states PMG Dela Cruz.

During World War II, DZRH was the only radio station spared from being shut down by the Japanese; it was through this station that the Japanese announced the surrender of U.S. and Philippine forces. In1949, after the proclamation of the second Philippine Republic, DZRH became the first radio station in the country to simultaneously broadcast in AM and short-wave frequencies.

Today, DZRH is the only AM station that has the widest reach in the Philippines, simultaneously broadcasted via satellite and through its 18 relay stations strategically located throughout the country and also through audio-video streaming at www.dzrhnews.com.

About 104,000 copies of the stamps were printed using imported unwatermarked paper, in Php25 denomination. These will be available at the Post Shop of the Manila Central Office, all area offices, and post offices nationwide.
